Satyrium cristatum | Your Guides Derek & Carolyn | Sandersonia aurantiaca |
Derek's hikes in the mountains led to photography. He has photographed some exceptional KwaZulu Natal Drakensberg mountain orchids and alpines in the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, a proclaimed World Heritage site. Rural life and a love of the mountains have been expressed in a collection of his Watercolour Artworks, entitled 'Watercolour Artworks of South Africa'. These paintings embrace Bushveld, Birds, Drakensberg Mountain scenes and Cape 'scapes.'

Giraffe female herd | A marriage proposal | Vervet monkey |
Carolyn is nearing the completion of her Nature Conservation National Diploma and her knowledge of the fauna and flora has earned her a "Specialist Field Guide" status. She wrote the course and lectured on Ecotourism for one of South Africa's prominent colleges of tertiary education. Her enjoyment of wildlife invariably brings her to write articles, several of which have been published in 'Nature' magazines. Having worked on South African Flower tours with one of Britain's prestigious botanists, the late Dr Franklyn Perring OBE, (who called his OBE "obsessive enthusiasm"), her own 'enthusiasm' lies in encouraging 'beginner' botanists on 'how to get started'.
