uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park
Durban Return
14 days
Mid January
This exciting itinerary explores scenic remote mountain peaks and their "wild flower garden" of the Drakensberg Mountains, a World Heritage Site in KwaZulu Natal South Africa, a "must see" and malaria free. A natural wild flower reserve with orchids, alpines and remnants of Drakensberg fynbos (Cape flora), where endemic birdlife, wild game and rural life form this kaleidoscope. Without hiking distances you can adventure into this wilderness area safely and comfortably.

The Drakensberg
Bush Blackcap
One of the World's Centres for Plant Diversity (CPD) lies in this Drakensberg Alpine Region where peaks rise to over 10 000 feet. Each year carpets of alpine flowers cover the summit of the mountains. Pleasant slow 'day walk and drive', from the base to the summit and walks in the grasslands and valleys of the lower Drakensberg, allow time in the different plant communities.

Eland in the Drakensberg
The 243 000 ha Park is home to well preserved San bushman Rock Art sites, one of which we will explore. These overhangs are shallow and sun filled. Diversity of flora and fauna, pristine, endangered and endemic, make for unique beauty and interest. Our 'flower safari' is a time in Africa that you will never forget. We choose comfortable en suite accommodation with good food and excellent South African wines. A holiday of a lifetime.
Please note: For the first two nights dinners will be for your own A/C. These will be in a restaurant near Umhloti.
